harmony of part-songs, motets and madrigals, demonstrating
the precisely balanced singing of such choirs that has been
enjoyed through the ages.
At Lofou choir Festival they are presenting an exquisite
mixture of songs and madrigals by various Elizabethan
composers such as John Dowland, John Bennet and Orlando
Gibbons, together with more recent works by R.
Vaughan-Williams, Sir Edward Elgar and Gilbert and Sullivan.
The familiar rhythm and melodies of two or three American
spirituals are also included in the programme, which it is
to be hoped will add to the light-hearted atmosphere of this
festival, and help to guarantee a most enjoyable summers’
evening.
